Organizing

I've spent part of the day organizing my clothing for recycling stash. Wow, do I have a lot of junk. Husband and son promised me a sewing/crafting area for Christmas but haven't gotten to setting it up yet.

So....I'm still all over the living room trying to figure out how to cut projects and set up my sewing machines and serger to get to work.

I found a wonderful wardrobe redesign blog online and signed the pledge to buy no new clothes for at least 6 months. Shouldn't be a problem. I haven't bought anything new in over a year. http://nikkishell.typepad.com/wardroberefashion/

My biggest challenge is design. I love the offbeat styles, but alas I am now 55 years old and all the "wisdom" tells me to dress like a crone and cut my hair short. Sheesh! Who makes up these rules anyway?

It's Been Too Long. Let Me Update.

I've been so busy of late I've forgotten to come in and blog. So, here I am.

Today is my birthday and I'm officially eligible for the senior citizen discount at the local thrift shops. Phil is taking me out to breakfast after the goats are milked (and I've had a shower, of course) and we'll see if I get any more discounts now that I'm old.

Phil bought me duct tape for my birthday. Now, before you go too crazy, it's what I asked for. He's going to help me make a new dressmaker/pants dummy for sewing. He's such a dear. How many husbands would do that? He's also working on a nice, quiet sewing/crafting area for me so I can spread out instead of messing up the living room.

I think all the goats are bred now for Spring kidding. I'll absolutely post photos as those babies arrive. There is nothing cuter than a newborn goat.

Now that the holidays have passed, I can get busy with my sewing projects. I have several recycled denim jeans projects going on right now. A beret, a couple of skirts (not your basic jeans skirt, but cooler), a corset top, and a few others. Pictures to follow when they are completed.

Our milk supply is dwindling due to the season, but come Spring soap making begins anew. I'll be adding scented soaps to the inventory due to popular demand.

I'm hoping to get the soap/recycled clothing shop open this Spring so look for details on that as well.

Now, I'm going back for another cup of coffee before I wake up the troops to get ready for barn chores.

A Misdirected War

President Obama is at war. Of course he is, you say? With Afghanistan? Nope. He's at war with his critics...particularly Fox News. Fox News dares to criticize Obama's policies. Fox News doesn't share Chris Matthews' "tingle" up his leg when he hears Obama. Fox has dared to speak out against Obama's administration.

So.......President Obama has declared war on Fox. I guess it's good that they've diverted their war against any GOP member of Congress, which was a diversion from the war against Insurance Companies, which was a diversion from their war against evil doctors who take out tonsils and remove feet for money.

Meanwhile, the report written by Obama's general in Afghanistan has been sitting on his desk for two months waiting for him to take action. He says he'll decide something by early November. Our troops are there now! They are fighting against terrorists and protecting what freedoms American has left (and they are growing fewer). The troops are in harm's way while the Obama Administration is busy fighting Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. It's shameful!

God bless and save our Republic!

Of Goats & Mud:

Thanks Al Gore. All this global warming is making me nuts! Of course, I guess without it, we’d be even more than 13 degrees below average temperature for this time of year. It’d be another ice age I’m sure.

Meanwhile, the perimeter of our barn is about knee deep with mud. We’re digging trench upon trench hoping to drain some of the moisture. The goats won’t come outside for anything and they absolutely blame me for mud. I run their world and I have made it messy. Now the horses could not care less and trudge through the much in search of the best green morsel in the pasture.

Now all this mud just serves to make me angry! And when I’m angry I blame politicians. (Maybe the goats think I’m a politician….No, wait, they love me!) I’m tired of Democrats blaming Republicans and vice versa. I’ve decided to become an Independent, because both “Parties” are nuts. And why are we restricted to two parties? Who says an Independent can’t be President, or Speaker of the House? By golly, if enough of us get fed up and refuse to vote for an incumbent, ANY INCUMBENT, things would surely change. No matter what a great job we think “our” guy does, let him go and give the job to someone new. No more “power”, no more perks, benefits or other sweet deals they vote for themselves. Try telling your boss you’ve decided in the middle of the night to give yourself a raise whether he likes it or not. I’m telling you the laughter will echo for miles.

So, I’m going to calm down now and see if I can find a sewing project to report on. I’ll make an effort to post pictures….before and after if I recycle some article of clothing into something new.

Hello and Pardon my Ranting.

It's raining AGAIN. We have so much mud here on the farm that I almost lost a boot trying to feed the horses. The goats won't go outside the barn and are sure it's my fault. The geese and ducks are having a grand old time, but the chickens look confused.

I'm looking forward to blogging for the first time in my life.

I'll start by telling you a little about myself. I'm a middle aged farm girl who apparently lives in a rain forest. I'll blame Al Gore's global warming for the cold crappy summer we had this year. I raise dairy goats and have 3 horses that I don't have time to ride. I love to sew and paint and draw and needle felt among other crafts and hope to post some of my projects here. I read a lot. I just finished the new book by the Ghosthunters. It's good and I recommend it highly. I'm waiting for the new Vince Flynn novel coming out on October 13. I collect old crafting, gardening and farming books and need to downsize my collection of over 1,500 books.

I'm a fan of Fox News and especially Glenn Beck, so if that offends anyone I guess you've been forewarned.

I'm married to a wonderful man and have a 26 year old, mentally challenged son from a prior marriage. I'm opinionated and noisy.

Now I'm off to do some necessary housework. Ta ta for now.
